S-741 Ji-sugi Kago
Japan Forest Series - Crafted from Japanese Tone Woods -
A special edition model handcrafted by Takumi Morinaka, one of Japan’s leading acoustic guitar luthiers, created to explore the potential of domestically sourced Japanese tonewoods.
The top is made from Jisugi (Japanese cedar sourced from Miyazaki),while the sides and back are made of Kagonoki (A sacred wood from Kyushu). Both are rare woods nurtured by Japan’s unique climate, each contributing its own distinctive character.
The combination of the Jisugi's brilliant treble and soft midrange with the clear, gentle tone of the Kagonoki results in a subtle but exquisite sound balance. The elegant and mystical grain pattern of Kagonoki adds a visual beauty that evokes deep emotion.
About Kagonoki
Kagonoki is a type of camphor tree that typically grows from Honshu to the west of Japan. It is named after the pattern of bark peeling off the trunk that looks like a deer's offspring.
In southern Kyushu region, the tree is sometimes called “Hoshikoga” (meaning “star” in Japanese) because the pattern resembles a star. The Kagonoki wood used in this project is a special wood grown in Takachiho Town, which is called the “Village of Myths”.
Takachiho Town is blessed with rich nature and is a popular healing destination and power spot, thanks to its many shrines and its association with several myths. The wood grown there has a beautiful grain nothing like others, and is recognized as Kagonoki, the sacred wood.
